What is Myopia?  
   Myopia is a condition in which light rays coming from an infinity and the lens focusing of light in front of retina. It is also called Nearsightedness. Myopia have good near vision but poor distance vision. Myopia is corrected by Concave lens.
Nearsightedness may develop gradually, often worsening during childhood. It is tends to run in families. 
Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved. 

Symptoms and sign of Myopia:

 Symptoms may include:- 
  • Poor distance vision
  • Headache
  • Eyestrain
  • Difficulty to see when driving a car especially in night. ( Night myopia)
Sign:- 
  • Image focus in front of retina
  • Flashes of light in one or both eyes
  • A curtain like shadow over your visual field.

Causes of Myopia:-        
  Main causes of myopia is gradually increase of Accommodation in which we see near objet clearly but blurry distance vision.
It also occur when the shape of the eye irregular causes light rays incorrectly focusing image in front of retina.
 Our eye has two main parts that focus image- 
a) The cornea:- dome shaped, watch glass like structure in front of the surface of the eye.
b) The Lens:- is a transparent biconvex structure. 

Risk factor of Myopia:- 
  • GeneticsNearsightedness tends to run in families. if one of yours parents is nearsighted, your risk of developing the condition  is increased. 
  • The environment factors implicated in myopia include near work, light exposure, lack of physical activity.     
  • High myopia risk factors- congenital glaucoma, ocular albinism.

Symptoms of myopia


Treatment:- 
    treatment of myopia may include- 
A) Eye glasses
B) contact lens
C) Refractive Surgery 
D) ICL( Implantable Collamer Lens) also used to correct and reduce nearsightedness(myopia) of up to-20D.
When you have myopia, your prescription for glasses or contact lenses will be negative number. These helps the eye focus light on retina. that clear the vision.

  • -1.00 --> -3.00Dsph (Low myopia)
  • -3.00 --> -6.00Dsph  (mild myopia)
  • > -6.00Dsph ( High myopia)
