Mechanism of Accommodation

SG Eye care

Accommodation is the process by which we can see near object clearly. ciliary body are the site of accommodation production. after the ages 40 year accommodation gradually decrease that's why he/she can't see near object clearly.
  • Distance and Near focus:-
For distance ciliary muscle relaxes, causing lens attachment fibres to become taut and flatten lens.
For near ciliary muscle contracts, releasing tension on fibres allowing lens to become more spherical.

  • Range and Amplitude of Accommodation:-
The distance between the near point of accommodation and far point of accommodation is known as range of accommodation.
The difference between the dioptric powers needed to focus at near point and far point known as amplitude of accommodation.

  • Anomalies of Accommodation:-
  1. Physiological (presbyopia)
  2. Pharmacological  (cycloplegia)
  3. Insufficiency of Accommodation
  4. Paralysis of ciliary muscle
  5. Spasm of Accommodation
  6. Excessive of Accommodation
